Simple Minds rock the Barrowlands and confirm TITP gig
Simple Minds

By Carla Callaghan

GLASGOW favourites Simple Minds were in town on Saturday to play a special gig dedicated to their first five albums.

The band, famed for hits such as ‘Alive and Kicking’ and ‘Promised You a Miracle’ played to a packed out Barrowlands.

And Toryglen-born Jim Kerr even confirmed that they would be playing their first ever T in the Park.

Despite line-up changes over the years and celebrating over three decades in the music industry, Simple Minds did not disappoint with an energetic performance packed with passion and enthusiasm.

The never-played-before set featured songs from their first five albums, Life In A Day, Real To Real Cacophony, Empires and Dance, Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Calling and New Gold Dream

Hits such as ‘Promised You A Miracle’, ‘Celebrate’ and ‘Chelsea Girl’ were firm favourites of the night, but really, it was hard to choose the best from what was an impressively executed set.

Frontman Jim Kerr strutted his way across the stage for the full set which lasted over two hours, giving bands half his age a run for their money in the performance stakes.

Treating fans to an extended encore which featured the upbeat 'Glittering Prize', 'Theme for Great Cities', 'Somewhere in the Summertime' and 'New Gold Dream' and 'Chelsea Girl'.

A great live gig with an all round impressive performance from a band who have definitely survived the test of time.
