Glasgow night Spectrum is massive success

A NEW, monthly club night is fast becoming one of the best, unique events in Glasgow.

Once a small and intimate night, Spectrum has become massively popular among the Electro lovers of the city.

The ninth Spectrum will take place this Saturday and is forecast to be a fantastic night.

Hosted in the basement of Merchant City’s Blackfriars pub, Spectrum was the brainchild of DJ Brian Tonner aka Motorpyscho and his bar manager girlfriend Elaine Waddell.

The duo decided to set up Spectrum after Brian had been dj-ing at other club nights in Glasgow for over a year.

Deciding to bring in more help to set up the night, they invited Brian’s brothers, Paul and Steph onboard.

With eight successful events under their belt and a growing crowd that keep coming back for more, the Spectrum team is delighted with the response.

Along with resident DJ, Brian Tonner, club goers can expect a host of hot Scottish talent frequenting the decks during the night, including Hushpuppy, Bonjour Boi, Kreep Boutique and Mgck.

The mainly electro night offers an astounding range of music. With a friendly atmosphere, the Spectrum nights are hard to stay away from and are building up a following from all over Glasgow.

The nights are becoming such a hit that people were turned away from the last Spectrum night due to the club being at capacity just an hour after opening time.

Promoter and Host, Paul, said:” Brian and Elaine invited me and my other brother Steph to help run it.

“I invited Marc Elrick, who manages/part owns Rainbow Rooms, George Square on board. “

He added:” We had a proper structure and mix of skills with massive ambitions for the night.”

“We feel to run the night properly and make it stand out and to take it where we want to go – (IBIZIA, LONDON, BERLIN), it takes a fully committed and professional team as well as blinding music!”

The growing popularity for the club night means the once small event is increasingly outgrowing its petite venue. In a bid not to lose the essence of Spectrum, the team intends to keep it at Blackfriars, but Paul reveals that the night will be touring venues on occasions from next year with new guest line-ups.

He said:” We love our current venue and can see it being there for a while.

“However on a quarterly basis from next year, we are going to be doing different venues 600/700 with a huge guest plus a local guest. “

Bringing on clothes chain Urban Outfitters as a sponsor has enabled the Spectrum guys and girls to spread the word and do a warm up at the Buchanan Street store before their nights.

With talks of expanding further afield and even launching a Spectrum clothing label, this night is definitely one to go to – a unique, friendly night full of fantastic music,

it’s one not to be missed.

The next Spectrum takes place on Saturday, September 26, in the basement of Blackfriars, Merchant City.  Doors open at 11pm - get down early to avoid disapointment.
