Open Mic nights, where anything goes, are an especially hard thing to find nowadays. Seriously. However, once a month at the Forest Café in Edinburgh, there is such a thing.
It’s for anyone and everyone with a passion for creativity; be it singing, playing acoustic covers, painting, acting, poetry or comedy. All styles are welcome.
I attended the November night last Wednesday (14th November) and it proved to be a very entertaining night. There was a vast and diverse amount of acts on offer with a genuinely warm, welcoming atmosphere. The lighting is just perfect with tables lit by candles perched on old wine bottle. The music on offer was simply superb.
The poetry and short stories on offer also play their part; they are what make the night different. A massive crowd of 80 people showed up to the November night and the next one is on December 13th.Organised by Eikon, the Open Mic Night welcomes all from far and wide. They just ask that if you wish to perform, come early and sign up as it can get very busy on the night. Local musicians can bring their own instruments, or use the house guitar or keyboard. Entry is free and it’s BYOB.
So if you’re an on-the-up musician looking for opinions on your new song, or a writer wanting a place to tell your latest short fable, or perhaps a stand-up looking for a place to test out your new material, or if you just want to be heard, go to Eikon’s Open Mic Night.
It’s more than just an your standard open mic night; it’s a place and an experience you will forever remember.
