The Rifles aiming high with new album

By Perthshire Advertiser

LONDONERS The Rifles shot themselves into the big time at Balado – but say they were expecting to play to an empty tent.

The capital city foursome were first on at the King Tuts tent with a Saturday noon start.

The Jam sound-alikes were met with a raptuorous welcome from a packed-out arena but say they thought they’d be stepping on stage with most of the 75,000 fans still snoozing away in their tents.

Frontman Joel Stoker told the PA: “This was our first visit to T in the Park and only our third time playing in Scotland.

“We’ve played Glasgow’s King Tuts a few times and it’s always brilliant up here.

“We have played other festivals before like Reading and Leeds, plus a few one-day events but nothing compares to this.

“We were on first at 12 o’clock at the King Tuts tent and I thought the place would be empty.

“But when we came out I thought ‘bloody hell – the place is full!’ I was well happy with the crowd.

“Our album isn’t even out until next week so I can’t imagine a lot of people have heard all our songs.

“I don’t know if people will go mad when the LP comes out but I think if they know our set it will help us along.”
