9:30pm until 1am, every second Thursday at Angels, Uddingston
It’s amazing how there is so little of these in the Lanarkshire and Glasgow area, considering this is where a lot of Scotland’s young talent comes form.
They’re a musical forum for musicians to perform their songs to their local core areas. Not just that, they are free and something that anyone can have a bash at. Sure you might get a few intoxicated requests for Tony Christie’s ‘Is this the way to Amarillo’, but there’s also the chance that you’re going to hear the next David Gray.
Strum, like most open mic nights, offers young musicians a chance to play their own songs or covers for diners and drinkers alike in the Angels restaurant area.
Sitting there and listening to the music on offer feels like a trip back to the late 1960s when open mic nights were rife with talent all throughout the UK.
Strum is a fantastic thing for young performers and local musical have-a-goes alike.
Last Thursday was the final Strum of 2007, with the event being renewed in early January.
If you’re from Lanarkshire and are fed up with your standard pub on repeat, you should nip on down to Angels and check this out. It’s a great night out with tasty food, a wonderful restaurant and a very homely atmosphere.
Thanks to Ruth and the gang at L107 for inviting us along.
