Alan McGee calls for Rolling Stones to retire
Alan McGee

By Carla Callaghan

Never far from a controversial statement, music mogul, Alan McGee wants the Brit Awards to recognise new talent and calls for the Rolling Stones and Sir Paul McCartney to retire.

Fuming Alan McGee thinks the music industry should be awarding new talent instead of nominating artists such as former Beatle Paul McCartney and even branded him as “an embarrassment to John Lennon”.

The former music boss who discovered the likes of Oasis and Primal Scream says the record companies are controlling the Brits and the whole process of  the awards.

Already bored with the music business as reported last week on ICScotland,  Alan launches his tirade against the awards show and believes acts such as Glasvegas should be in the Brits nominations, not Coldplay and former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney.

McGee lists some of the acts he would like to see on the show: “Jay Z, Glasvegas  Oasis, Beyonce, Rihanna, Paul Weller,  Primal Scream,  Neil Young but they aren’t X Factor culture so they don't apply.”

Reported in the Daily Record, saying that rockers should retire when they are 40, Alan points out that his cutting statement doesn’t apply to all musicians over 40 (namely Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie ,48, and Paul Weller , 51).

McGee replies: “They get a pass as does Neil Young and Morrissey.”

He continues: “Macca should pack it in and retire now - he's an embarrassment to John Lennon, actually he's an embarrassment to Ringo Starr.

“While we are at it, The Rolling Stones should retire immediately and collect their OAP bus passes.

“My 21-year-old son's first rehearsal with his little indie band is better than the pure utter ***** The Stones now plod out - they haven't made a decent album since 72.”

“The fact that Ronnie Wood’s sex life is more interesting than the music says it all.
