Missed Out?

Apr 3 2007

By Linda Innes

This year's T in the Park sold out in record time, even though there were more tickets on sale than ever before. A massive 80,000 tickets have been snapped up by eager music lovers. If you are one of the many who didn't get their hands on a ticket don't panic because this year Scotland is home to more new music festivals than ever.

In August, T on the Fringe will continue what T in the Park started. Bands already signed up are The Kaiser Chiefs and the Foo Fighters. Also playing are the excellent Razorlight who will be fresh from headlining T in the Park and selling out the SECC. You'll need to be quick though as tickets go on sale on Friday 6th April at 9.30am.

Also worth a trip this summer is Rock Ness. Expanding on last year's event, Rock Ness is proving to be another highlight of the music lover's calendar. This year will see performances from Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Manic Street Preachers and The Charlatans. Tickets are still available for both days and camping.

Runrig's concert 'Beat the Drum' at Loch Ness has turned into another Scottish music event. This outdoor concert on the 18th of August features a variety of support bands including the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Scottish rock band Wolfstone. Julie Fowlis, winner of BBC radio 2's Folk singer of the year, and Aberfeldy will also play. This one day event can also turn into a family weekend with camping available on site.

New to the music scene is The Outsider which calls itself 'a festival adventure'. Sandwiched between Rock Ness and T in the Park, The Outsider is an opportunity for you to catch some live acts including KT Tunstall and Crowded House, whilst taking part in the many activities available in Aviemore. This is a festival with a difference where the audience is not just there to listen but to interact.

Continuing with the theme of festivals with a difference, Connect 2007, taking place from the 31st August to 2nd September, is not set in your typical campsite. Bands such as Primal Scream, the Beastie Boys and My Latest Novel will take to the stage at Inveraray Castle. This 'boutique music festival' offers an alternative to the usual music event and is hoping to attract a more mature crowd.

Overlapping with Connect 2007 is the new Retro Fest event at Culzean Castle. This gives an opportunity for those reluctant to go to today's music festivals to revel in the music of the 80's. Total cheesy pop it promises to be a popular event with artists like The Human League, Bananarama and Hue and Cry performing their classic tunes.

These are just a small list of the mass of events happening all over Scotland this summer, so you're sure to find something to help you get over missing out on those golden T in the Park tickets.
