GUS MacPHERSON insists his side's drubbing could be a wake-up call for some of his players who are clearly under the impression that they're better than they actually are. The St Mirren boss looked on in frustration as sloppy play allowed Falkirk to rattle in five goals at Love Street. MacPherson bemoaned the absence of suspended central defender Will Haining after seeing his rearguard continually sliced open by Falkirk's precise passing. But the Love Street gaffer also had a dig at some of his players after watching the bruising defeat. He said: "They're all professional players in there and it's up to them how they react to this result. "We'll talk to them individually and collectively and we'll analyse the performance and look for improvement. "Everyone says it's a team game but a lot of it is down to an individual and how strong a character he is. Maybe one or two of them had been thinking they were a wee bit better than what St Mirren is all about and this might be the reminder required to show they're not as good as they believe they are. "It's a tough reality check but it's something we've known for a while. "Maybe it takes something like that, an individual's performance, to get them to sit up and take notice and say 'I need to show more about myself'." |
