FRENCH coach Guy Roux has branded Rangers stupid over their handling of Daniel Cousin's proposed £3million move to Fulham. Roux hit out at the Ibrox side as they wait to hear if FIFA will grant them special dispensation for Cousin to complete his move to the Premiership despite breaking the ruling that restricts a player to two clubs in a single season. Rangers and Fulham claim Cousin only played a cameo role for Lens with a 21-minute appearance as a sub in a 1-0 defeat by Bordeaux. But it emerged yesterday Cousin also played 90 minutes of a second competitive clash for Lens - who were managed by Roux at the time - against Ukrainians Chornomorets in the Intertoto Cup. And Roux, who managed Auxerre for more than 40 years before his spell at Lens came to an end just four league games into the season, said: "What a waste of time. "There is an old Latin saying that sums up what I feel about this situation with Daniel - lex causae. That means the law is the law and no one should challenge it. "It annoys me that Rangers and Fulham are bothering FIFA with this. They are being stupid. "Everyone knows Daniel played for us and Rangers. There is a great modern-day invention called the internet which makes it easy to check these things. It clearly states Daniel played for us not once but twice. He came on as a sub at Bordeaux and started an Intertoto Cup match for us. "That should make it quite simple - the transfer should not go ahead. I'm sorry for Daniel because he is caught up in this but it's very straightforward - he has to spend the rest of the season at Rangers. "I don't see why it should be questionable. I don't see why FIFA should look at this case. "If they overturn the ruling on this occasion, why not just rip up the rulebook altogether?" Rangers had expected a decision this week but a FIFA spokesperson said: "The Daniel Cousin case is still pending. "We received some extra information regarding it and have requested more, that is the reason for the delay. We cannot give an exact date when a decision will be made." |
