Killie Bid To Tie Up Lilley

Nov 8 2007

Daily Record

KILMARNOCK want David Lilley to sign anew contract.

The 30-year-old defender's deal expires at the end of the season and manager Jim Jefferies is eager to keep him.

Lilley, left, joined up at Rugby Park in January 2004 from Partick Thistle and has become a key squad member.

Jefferies said: "I've told David we want to get talks started. He has been very unfortunate with injuries, especially last season. When he first came in he was a regular and for the first couple of seasons was solid and did a great job for us.

"He is a very reliable player and always gives you 100 per cent. He can also play in a few positions and that makes him a handy man to have around.

"I think he enjoys it here so hopefully negotiations will be straightforward."

Jefferies is currently in talks with Frazer Wright and Simon Ford over new deals and is confident the defensive duo will be tied up soon.

The Killie boss said: "We've had more talks with Frazer and Simon. We are very close to tying up Simon but there are a few bits and pieces left. I've had a chat with Frazer's agent and he said he would report back to us.

"I'm not expecting to hear anything for a few days until they've sat down and had a talk. I imagine they'll do that after the Dundee United game is out of the way."
