GARY MACKENZIE last night insisted he'll use his inside info to snuff out Ross McCormack at Fir Park. The pair came up through the Rangers youth ranks together before heading their separate ways. That friendship will be put to one side when Dundee stopper MacKenzie takes on McCormack's Motherwell for a place in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals tonight. MacKenzie said: "I played with Ross for a few years at Rangers and it will be good to play against him. He's been flying this year. "He was in and out of the first-team squad during my last year at Rangers but it didn't quite work out for him. "He has a lot of qualities. His right foot is top notch and he strikes the ball very sweetly. He's got great delivery from set-pieces. "He's proof that there is life after Rangers. Some youngsters stay there too long and don't develop due to a lack of first-team action. That was one of the reasons I left Rangers." MacKenzie reckons Alex Rae's men have a great chance of causing an upset and with Queen of the South waiting in the next round he knows a semi-final spot isn't out of the question either. He said: "We played them during pre-season and I thought they were a decent outfit. Hopefully, we can take the game to them and maybe cause an upset. "The game has been called off a couple of times and it has been frustrating. "But with Queen of the South to play if we get through it's a great chance to make the semi-finals. "As long as we go there with the right attitude we've got a chance of making it through to the next round. "A couple of my mates are Motherwell men and they've been winding me up a bit, saying it will be our last game in the Cup. "But we're not scared of Well, that's for sure." |
