INVERNESS midfielder Don Cowie last night insisted Michael Fraser will bounce back from his Rugby Park blunders. The young keeper was to blame for both Kilmarnock's goals in the 2-2 SPL draw at the weekend. But Cowie, who struck a tremendous free-kick equaliser for the Highlanders, has no doubts Fraser has the strength to recover from his Ayrshire agony. The 24-year-old said: "It says a lot about Michael that he held his hands up for making a mistake. It's a harsh fact that if a keeper makes an error, it usually costs you more than one by a midfielder or striker. "It was unfortunate but in my time at the club Michael has been superb and all the more so when you consider he is fairly young for a keeper. He was down after the game but as his team-mates it is up to us to help lift him again. "I'm sure he will be back for training in a positive frame of mind because he has plenty of character as well as ability. What happened on Saturday can happen to the best goalkeepers in the game." Cowie's moment of magic was clouded slightly by the two points dropped but the former Ross County favourite admitted the sublime 20-yard dead-ball strike was a career best. He said: "It probably was the best goal I have ever scored. Anything can happen when you hit a free-kick but you can tell when you've connected sweetly. "I knew I'd hit it well and thankfully it flew into the net. But these things matter less when you don't win. It was a bit disappointing as we did not live up to the standards we had set in the last couple of games." |
