CHRISTOPHE BERRA insists Hearts have to cut out the Jekyll and Hyde performances if they want to climb up the table. Inconsistency has been Jambos' downfall this season. Although they have savoured wins over Rangers and Celtic, in the CIS Cup, they've been beaten by Inverness and dropped points to Gretna. Hearts face Gretna this afternoon and Berra says they must treat the clash as though they were up against one of the Old Firm rather than the SPL strugglers. Christophe said: "On our day we can beat any team. We can't just raise our standards and give 100 per cent only when we're playing the big teams. We need to do it week in, week out if we want to compete at the top. "We need to show the same desire, attitude and concentration levels and the willingness to win. "If we do that all the time we can go places. "Star players can go to a junior park and still play top level. That's maybe what separates a top player from a good one. If you want to reach the top you have to produce and be consistent week in, week out and that's one thing I am always striving to do. "We beat Rangers then lost at Inverness. But we bounced back from that and went to Parkhead where we won. "We were unlucky not to beat Hibs and ran out comfortable winners against Aberdeen. Now we must play against Gretna with the same application and attitude. "If we do that we'll do well and get three points." Berra knows Jambos let their fans down when they could only draw 1-1 with Gretna at Tynecastle. He said: "We dominated that game and had loads of chances to kill them off. "At 1-0 Gretna got a free-kick, it was flicked on and that was it. But you learn from your mistakes. "The thing is Gretna are probably due another result - they're going to be fighting for their lives. "They're bottom of the table and want to try to stay in this league. "If we drop our standards we'll be in trouble." |
