Millen: Forget About Gretna

Nov 5 2007

By Scott Mcdermott

ST MIRREN No.2 Andy Millen last night warned his players to forget about Gretna's demise and concentrate on their own bid to stay in the SPL. The Buddies earned a precious away point at Fir Park thanks a goal from Stewart Kean.

And with Gretna losing at Falkirk there's now a huge 10-point gap between the Paisley side and the bottom dogs.

Buds escaped the drop by the skin of their teeth last term but they've progressed this term and look to have far more in their locker than Davie Irons' men.

But Millen - standing in for gaffer Gus MacPherson who missed the game after the death of his father - insists they are not even thinking about Gretna's plight.

He said: "We don't concern ourselveswith anything that's going on at Gretna.

"We can't control it. All we can control is our squad and our main objective is to stay in this league. We're still going through a transitional period at the club."

St Mirren deserved their point after a terrific second-half display and could have even snatched all three points late on.

Millen, who was outstanding at the back, said: "We were under pressure in the first half but the tide turned and we were fantastic.

"People have accused us of being too negative but you couldn't say that against Well. We tried to win and almost did."
