GRETNA boss Davie Irons is ready to pitch Nigerian striker Henri Makinwa into his side against Hibs tomorrow if he can get international clearance.
Makinwa, 30, who has been without a club since before the last transfer window, holds a European passport because he's been based in Portugal since the time heplayed for Vittoria Setubal.
The striker has been in Romania and China since then and impressed Irons during a 10-day trial. Gretna have not scored a goal or won a point in their last four games and the lack of firepower is a major source of concern for the manager.
Irons said: "Henri has experience at the highest level and he'll definitely add to what we've already got at our disposal.
"I was sent a DVD in which he does things like score for Setubal against Roma in the UEFA Cup and from what I've seen of Henri in training I like the look of him.
"I organised a bounce game against Ayr and saw enough to know I'd involve him against Hibs this weekend, assuming we get international clearance in time."
Gretna have hit a demoralising sequence of results but Irons isn't ready to press the panic button.
He said: "Being realistic, we are only one place away from where we want to finish in the table at the end of the season.
"If we finished second bottom it would be a remarkable achievement. Getting Henri into the side would be a big boost for everyone and help wipe out our scoring problem. It's all about staying positive."
