JOHN HUGHES last night admitted he's been left cringeing by the number of goals Falkirk have let in. The Bairns have the worst defensive record in the SPL with 23 conceded in nine matches, including seven in one game against Rangers. Gaffer Hughes insists things must improve after a run of three defeats. He said: "The number of goals we've conceded has been a real problem - it's embarrassing. "As a defender you have to have a bit of pride and say, 'Let's go and get a clean sheet'. We've been working on defending from the front in training to give the back four a bit of protection. "Guys such as Jack Ross, Darren Barr and Kenny Milne have not become bad players overnight." Vice-captain Ross misses the visit of Kilmarnock but doesn't need surgery on a hernia problem and should be fit within a fortnight. Hughes added that Austria striker Roman Wallner, signed in the summer, could soon have a more regular first-team role. The boss said: "We've had to work really hard on his sharpness and fitness." |
