ALAN KERNAGHAN last night backed Dundee United striker Noel Hunt to win a call-up to the Republic of Irelandsquad. With seven goals already to his credit this season the Arabs hitman, right, has been linked with international honours. The Irish are set to name their players for the B international against Scotland at Airdrie on November 20 with Hunt in the frame for an inclusion. Kernaghan insists the player is going the right way about earning promotion on the international stage. He said: "If Noel keeps doing what he's doing domestically he's bound to have a chance. "As far as the full squad are concerned Noel would be up against some top strikers like Robbie Keane. "But in terms of a B call-up it's fair to say he should be a strong contender. The only way he can boost his chances is to carry on scoring and hopefully he will catch the eye." Hunt has prospered under United boss Craig Levein and Kernaghan said: "Noel seems like a changed player. "The fact he's scoring goals so regularly for a rejuvenated Dundee United side will have enhanced his confidence and that's what any striker needs." |
