Skippy: Signs Are Good For Hoops

Dec 5 2007

By Neil Cameron, Daily Record

Champions League Crunch Night...

SCOTT McDONALD swears Celtic will improve - especially with the addition of new faces in the transfer window.

The Aussie striker walked off the San Siro pitch and said: "We are delighted to get though and it's a great achievement again by the boys when you look at the quality and money spent by other teams.

"But when you consider our overall performance - and I'm sure the manager and captain will agree - it is something we need to improve on. I'm sure the gaffer will add to the squad.

"Getting to the last 16 is great but we are on a downer because we would have liked to have done it ourselves.

"We have guys coming back from injury and I'm sure the gaffer will bring new faces in. That will hopefully make us better and I'm sure we will be wiser next time around.

"A lot of the boys have experience from last season's knockout stage and I hope that stands us in good stead."

McDonald revealed he had no idea Shakhtar were losing to Benfica in Ukraine.

He said: "The first time I knew was when we came out after half-time and saw the scores on the big screen. But that was the last thing on our minds."

Meanwhile, Filippo Inzaghi admitted he was delighted to break the scoring record in front of his own fans.

The AC Milan striker hit his 63rd European goal to go one better than former Bayern Munich hitman Gerd Muller.

Inzaghi said: "I'm happy it happened in my own stadium.

"Seeing the names behind me makes me shiver. I have to thank all the team-mates who have helped me achieve this."
