Jiri Could Be Set To Czech Out

Dec 12 2007

By Craig Swan, Daily Record

Champions League Crunch Rangers V Lyon

JIRI JAROSIK wants to sit down with Krylya Sovetov chiefs to discuss a £2.5 million move out of Celtic next month.

The big-spending Russians are in the middle of a takeover and the new owners are ready to plunge huge amounts of cash into the club to try and challenge for the league title.

Krylya are prepared to stump up the massive transfer fee and a £1 million-a-year salary to land Celtic's Czech midfielder.

Newly-installed Krylya boss Leonid Slutskiy tried to sign Jarosik two years ago when he was in charge at FC Moscow.

Having been rejected on that occasion he is now determined not to miss out on the 30-year-old a second time.

Jarosik has reclaimed a place in Gordon Strachan's side in recent weeks and helped them to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

But it appears he is still keen to quit Glasgow and the former Birmingham, Chelsea and CSKA Moscow player would like to hear what Krylya have to offer.

Jarosik though will only be interested in a move if Krylya chiefs convince him that they can match his ambitions.

He said: "I know that Krylya wants to sign me. My agent told me two weeks ago but it's too early to talk about a move.

"If I'm honest I was surprised by their interest.

They were fighting relegation and it was only in the final few games of the season they could breathe easily.

"But now it appears they have different targets.

"The problem is I don't know what kind of team Krylya will be next year and which players they will have.

"If they don't sign new players in the transfer window they are unlikely to do better than they did this year.

"If I'm honest I would rather play for a team challenging at the top of the Russian league.

"Either way, I hope to meet with a representative from Krylya soon.

"We will discuss what the team's aims are for the following year and, depending on what they have to say, I will make my decision.

"I would be happy to go back to Russia. I still have a lot of friends there and I often think back fondly to my time in Russia."

Jarosik, however, is adamant that he will not allow any future transfer dealings distract him from his current work in Glasgow.

The Czech international says he will stay focused on the cause until he walks out of the door at Celtic Park.

Jarosik said: "At the moment I'm a Celtic player and I need to concentrate on the team.

"We're still in the Champions League and are leading the SPL."
