TV police-chase suicide man named

20:05, Sep 29 2012

Police in the United States have identified a man who opened fire on officers and then led them on a chase which ended with his suicide broadcast on national television.

Jodon F Romero, 33, was a wanted criminal who stole a car at gunpoint on Friday, said Sergeant Tommmy Thompson of Phoenix Police in Arizona.

Sgt Thompson said an officer fired at Romero just before he committed suicide in the desert miles west of Phoenix but he was apparently not hit.

The chase was being followed by a television news helicopter and was broadcast live by Fox News.

The network was unable to cut off the feed before Romero shot himself.

Sgt Thompson said Romero had previous convictions for violent acts and was wanted for parole violations.
