Turkey intercepts Syria aeroplane

Turkey has forced a Syrian passenger plane to land at Ankara airport, Turkish state-run TV station TRT ha reported.

The Airbus A320 flying from Moscow was intercepted by F16 jets as it entered Turkish airspace and escorted to the capital's Esenboga Airport.

The plane was suspected of carrying heavy weapons to Damascus.

A Turkish Foreign Ministry official confirmed that a Syrian plane was forced to land at Ankara airport, and that authorities were "inspecting the plane" but would not provide further information.
