Teenager charged with harassment

00:05, Mar 13 2010

A teenager has been charged with the harassment of a man who died outside his home.

David Askew, 64, was pronounced dead after police were called to reports of a gang outside his house in Melandra Crescent, in Hattersley, Greater Manchester.

Kial Cottingham, 18, who lived in the same street as Mr Askew was charged with harassment and remanded in custody to appear before Tameside Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Greater Manchester Police said the charges relate to a series of incidents between 25 January 2010 and 10 March 2010.

An 18-year-old man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter was bailed until 7 June 2010 pending further inquiries.

Mr Askew, who had learning difficulties, collapsed and died in the garden of his home on Wednesday evening.

Minutes before the police arrived, Mr Askew's family reported a disturbance.

A post-mortem examination was inconclusive and further tests will be conducted to establish his cause of death.
