Ruling in billionaire legal battle

A High Court judge is due to rule on a multibillion-pound legal battle between Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky and Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich.

Mr Berezovsky, 66, claimed more than £3 billion damages at a High Court trial after accusing the 45-year-old Russian billionaire businessman of blackmail, breach of trust and breach of contract.

Mr Abramovich denied the allegations and denied that Mr Berezovsky was entitled to damages.

Mr Berezovsky told the trial, which started in London last October and ended in January, that Mr Abramovich "intimidated" him into selling shares in a Russian oil company at a fraction of their value.

He also told judge Mrs Justice Gloster that Mr Abramovich broke a promise made during a deal relating to a Russian aluminium company.

Mr Abramovich disputed the claims.

Judicial Office officials said Mrs Justice Gloster would deliver a ruling in London.

A Judicial Office spokesman said Mrs Justice Gloster would give a summary of her judgment. He said the judge's full judgment would be published on a date to be fixed.
