Olympic stars support Farah charity

22:05, Sep 1 2012

Mo Farah was joined by Olympic heroes past and present at a fundraising dinner for his charity tonight.

The double London 2012 gold medallist hosted the star-studded event to raise money for the Mo Farah Foundation, which he set up to help victims of famine in east Africa.

Among the guests were the fastest man on the planet, Usain Bolt, and five gold-medallist Sir Steve Redgrave.

Somali-born Farah, 29, also greeted Beijing 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, Seoul hurdling runner-up Colin Jackson and Los Angeles 1500m silver medallist Steve Cram for the Night of Champions at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London.

The Mo Farah Foundation distributes family food baskets containing rice, maize, wheat, flour, milk, sugar, beans, oil and other essentials to help thousands of people in Somalia.

It also helps provide clean water, sanitation and medical treatment in east Africa.

Ohuruogu, who bagged a silver in London, said: "It's a really great cause. I'm here to support the Mo Farah Foundation, and just try to help in any way I can.

"I think it's a wonderful cause, a wonderful idea. It's such a genuine and wonderful thing to do to set up a charity for less fortunate people.

"So I'm here to help and show Mo we all want to raise as much money as we can to help others."

Jackson said: "It's a fantastic foundation that Mo set up a few years ago now. This is something that's really close to Mo's heart himself. It was totally his concept, so for him to keep going on what he promised is just sensational, and of course his Olympic successes will make all the difference too."
