Man in court over flat stab death

04:05, Jul 21 2012

A man is due to appear in court charged with the murder of a 24-year-old who died from stab wounds after a disturbance, police said.

Mikel Cela, 22, of Mountway Close, Welwyn Garden City, has been charged with killing Darren Leonard, who died after an incident at a flat in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, on July 11.

A Hertfordshire Police spokesman said Cela would appear before magistrates at Hatfield Remand Court charged with murder and conspiracy to rob.

Police also said they were looking for other individuals in connection with the disturbance in the Northfield area of Hatfield.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the flat and Mr Leonard was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage, but died shortly afterwards.

In a statement released last night, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Ross, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: "We believe more than one person was involved in the incident in Hatfield where Darren died, and we would appeal for those people to come forward or anyone who knows anything about the incident to contact us."
