Colleagues of six soldiers who died when their armoured vehicle was blown up in Afghanistan have been cheered by crowds as they marched through a town centre.

About 170 troops from Corunna Company, 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment took part in a homecoming parade in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Five men from the company and a sergeant attached to the unit from another regiment died in March when their Warrior vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device.

Sergeant Nigel Coupe, 33, of 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, was killed alongside Corporal Jake Hartley, 20, Private Anthony Frampton, 20, Private Christopher Kershaw, 19, Private Daniel Wade, 20, and Private Daniel Wilford, 21, all of 3 Yorks.

Cpl Hartley, Pte Frampton and Pte Wilford were all from the Huddersfield area.

Another 3 Yorks soldier from the Huddersfield area - Private Thomas Wroe, 18 - was killed in Afghanistan last month.

The soldiers paraded through the streets of the town centre led by a 30-piece band. The families of some of those who died on the tour joined the roadside crowds for the parade.

The troops were formally inspected in New Street before heading for a private service at Huddersfield Parish Church.
