Wrong-side driver dies after crash

A woman driving on the wrong side of the road apparently without lights has died after a head-on crash.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident on the A725 Hamilton Road in High Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, on Wednesday night.

The 27-year-old woman appears to have been driving without lights as she travelled east on the westbound carriageway, according to police.

Her vehicle crashed with a westbound Ford Mondeo which then crashed with an HGV also travelling west.

An ambulance took the 27-year-old woman to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride, where she later died.

The 62-year-old Ford Mondeo driver had minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.

A 48-year-old man driving the HGV was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours, Strathclyde Police said.

Officers are appealing for information about the crash which happened at around 9.40pm near the off-slip for Hamilton Technology Park.
