Woman dies after incident at house

A woman has died after a disturbance at her home, police said.

The 63-year-old collapsed following the incident at her house in Polo Gardens, Troon, Ayrshire, on Friday evening.

She died a short time after being admitted to Kilmarnock's Crosshouse Hospital.

Strathclyde Police said the woman's 64-year-old husband sustained serious facial and chest injuries during the disturbance.

He too was taken to Crosshouse Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place to establish the exact cause of the woman's death.

Further details of the incident, which happened at around 7.45pm, have not been released, but police said it was not a shooting.

Inquiries into what happened are continuing and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
