Woman, 78, killed in two-car crash

An elderly woman has died and two others have been seriously injured following a two-car crash on an unclassified road.

The 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which happened at about 10am on Friday at Tibbermore crossroads, Perthshire.

The woman, thought to be from Perth, was a passenger in a blue Mazda, along with four other women. She will not be named until her relatives have been informed and formal identification has taken place.

Two other occupants of the same car, aged 82 and 83, were taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, suffering from serious injuries. Tayside Police said the remaining women in the car, aged 77 and 83, received slight injuries and were taken to Perth Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The crash, on the road that runs from Perth to Madderty, also involved a silver Renault Laguna.

The driver of that car, a 24-year-old woman, was also taken to Perth Royal Infirmary, suffering from shock. Her passengers, two one-year-old girls and a three-year-old boy, were unhurt.

Police said they, along with other members of the emergency services, were at the scene following the crash.

Road closures were put in place in the area, affecting all access routes.

Crash investigators have been working to establish what happened. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.

Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, and who either saw the collision or the vehicles before the crash happened.
