VAT tax cut urged for construction

Scottish business leaders have called for a tax cut to help the recovery of the construction industry.

The Scottish Chambers of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses Scotland and the Scottish Council for Development and Industry want to see VAT on repair and maintenance work cut by 5% included in the Chancellor's emergency Budget on Tuesday.

They said the move would safeguard jobs and skills in the building trade by making renovation more affordable and causing a surge in demand.
