Two people killed in road accidents

A pedestrian and a motorcyclist have died in separate road accidents.

An elderly woman was hit by a dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectra car in Benhar Road in Shotts, North Lanarkshire, at about 4.20am on Tuesday. She died at the scene while the 46-year-old driver was not injured.

Strathclyde Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and said it is sending a report to the procurator fiscal.

The woman's age is not known but police said she was elderly.

On Monday, a motorcyclist died in a collision with another biker, Central Scotland Police said.

The accident happened when a west-bound white Citroen minibus crossed the carriageway into a layby on the east-bound side of the road.

Two eastbound motorcyclists, one on a Yamaha and one on a Honda, collided and the Honda rider, Brian Allan, 62, died at the scene.

Officers are looking for information about the accident which happened at about 4pm on the A904 near Linlithgow, West Lothian.

The road was closed for four hours for investigations.
