Conservative leader Ruth Davidson has called for an investigation into the "staggering" number of patient appointments being cancelled by the NHS.
Ms Davidson said 110,000 appointments across Scotland - one in eight - had been cancelled by health boards.
She linked this to the introduction of a new £44 million patient management system, brought in by the Scottish Government from the beginning of 2010 to streamline in-patient and out-patient bookings, manage waiting lists, order tests and report test results.
Speaking at First Minister's Questions, Ms Davidson said: "Looking at just one health board, Ayrshire and Arran, we see a system in meltdown.
"So much so that they have had to cancel 7,500 inpatient appointments since its introduction. Cancelled by the health authority, not by patients. Does the First Minister still have confidence in the system, which from inception to implementation is entirely the product of his Government?"
Alex Salmond replied: "There is resolution of issues in terms of the patient management system under way at the moment. The issues with new information technology pale into insignificance with the extraordinary difficulties which have been experienced by her administration south of the border."
Ms Davidson went on to say the Ayrshire and Arran figures were not even half of the story. She added: "They're not even a tenth of the story, because if you look at what is happening in Ayrshire and Arran, from the launch of this system, if you include outpatient appointments, you get a staggering 110,000 that have been cancelled by the NHS. That's one in eight."
She added: "There is nowhere for the SNP to hide, there is no-one else to blame - and don't look south of the border for it. Will the First Minister, for once in his life, take some responsibility, order an investigation into this chaos and get it sorted as a matter of urgency?"
The First Minister said: "The difficulties that have been encountered are in the process of being sorted. Why shouldn't we look south of the border? Because the contrast is between the public health service in Scotland performing an extraordinary high level for the patients concerned, and a health service which is being dismantled south of the border, which won't even be a health service at all."
A Scottish Government spokeswoman said there was no link between the introduction of the new patient management system and the cancellation of appointments.
