Thief escapes after raid on bookie

A thief escaped with cash after a raid at a bookmakers.

The man struck at Ladbrokes in Glasgow's Shettleston area at about 9.40am on Thursday when he threatened staff and demanded money. The suspect, who wore a dark scarf over his face, fled on foot, Strathclyde Police said.

Officers said Shettleston Road would have been busy at that time and appealed for witnesses.

In a separate case, a woman received hospital treatment after an attempted robbery earlier in the day in the city's Dennistoun area.

The victim was getting some items from her car by Armadale Path at about 1.10am when she was approached by a man who demanded money. The man hit her on the head and ran off empty-handed in the direction of Townhill Road.

The woman was treated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and has since been released.

Detective Constable Alister Tom said: "This attack has left a woman injured and extremely distressed and it's imperative we trace the man responsible. I am appealing to local residents who may have seen or heard something to get in touch."
