Sex attacker description released

Police have released a description of a man who forced a woman to the ground in a sexually-motivated attack as she walked home from a night out.

The 23-year-old woman had been with friends in Frederick Street, Edinburgh, and was walking home along nearby St Vincent Street at around 2.40am on Sunday when she was grabbed from behind.

During a struggle, she screamed loudly before the man made off towards the Stockbridge area. The woman was helped by two members of the public and went home where she contacted Lothian and Borders Police.

Officers are now appealing for help from the public to identify the man. He is described as white, between 25 and 30 years old, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in with a skinny build. He was wearing a navy hooded top with the hood up and jeans.

Police believe the attack was sexually motivated and are investigating whether it could be linked to a similar incident in Cumberland Street in the early hours of September 29.

Meanwhile, Central Scotland Police are appealing for witnesses after two teenage girls were indecently assaulted during separate incidents.

The first attack on a 15-year-old girl happened in Boyd Street, Falkirk, at some point between 8.30pm and 11.30pm on Friday.

The second incident happened in a wooded area near to Greenpark Drive, Polmont, between 10pm and 11.30pm on Saturday when a 14-year-old girl was indecently assaulted.

Police are following a positive line of inquiry in relation but are appealing for information from witnesses.
