Increased interest in buying tickets for the Commonwealth Games and the opening of the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome marked a memorable six months for Glasgow 2014, according to a report.
More than 40% say the Olympics had made them more excited for the 2014 Games, with interest in buying tickets doubling. The opening of the velodrome and the Commonwealth Arena in Glasgow's east end made the last six months a "game changer", organisers said.
Key highlights in the report, released by Glasgow 2014 Games partners, are the so-called Olympic bounce, the launch of Clyde, the official mascot of the event designed by 12-year-old Beth Gilmour from Cumbernauld, and the announcement of Sir Chris, comedian Billy Connolly, swimmer Rebecca Adlington and actor Martin Compston as official ambassadors.
Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said: "The last six months have been a real game changer for the organising committee. We have reached a number of milestones and built significant momentum as we get closer to the Games.
"We remain confident but not complacent and focused on the task in hand. There is a lot of hard work to be done by the organising committee, our Games partners and our stakeholders over the next two years to ensure we stage a Games of which Glasgow, Scotland and the Commonwealth can be proud."
The report highlights the recent achievements of the committee, culminating in an encouraging co-ordination commission review by the Commonwealth Games Federation.
According to organisers, commission chairman Bruce Robertson spoke positively about progress to date after a recent visit and described Glasgow 2014 as having the opportunity to be the best Commonwealth Games ever and a "blueprint" for the future.
Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "Any visitor to Glasgow will be impressed by the rising of venues and facilities that, in addition to those already existing, will be used during the Games. One of these new venues, the Commonwealth Arena, opened just a few weeks ago and is already a huge success."
Sport minister Shona Robinson described the last six months as "fantastic" and said: "Building on these successes, the Scottish Government is committed to developing a legacy for the whole of Scotland, including a new £10 million fund to create or improve places in local communities where people can go to get active."
