£100m for colleges and housing

Finance Secretary John Swinney has announced extra cash for colleges and housing in his spending plans for next year.

The Scottish Government was under pressure to reverse a cut in funding for the country's colleges.

Mr Swinney, speaking at Holyrood, said the sector would get an additional £61 million over the next two years.

This, he said, was the "best possible" deal.

He also pledged an extra £38 million of expenditure for housing, saying this would help provide new homes and improve existing stock.

The Finance Secretary announced the measures to MSPs debating the Scottish Government's Budget for 2013-14.

He told MSPs that with its spending plans, the SNP administration had "delivered a Budget for growth".
