Police arrest four in drug raids

Four people have been arrested and £170,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine seized in separate police raids.

A search of a house in Underwood Road in Newmains, North Lanarkshire, found cocaine with an estimated street value of £80,000 and cannabis worth about £75,000.

Two men, aged 30 and 34, and a 30-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the find.

They remain in custody and are due to appear at Hamilton Sherriff Court on Friday.

Earlier in the day, cannabis worth £15,000 was discovered in a house in Glendale Avenue, Airdrie, also North Lanarkshire.

A four-figure sum of cash was also found in the raid at about 12.30pm and a 42-year-old man was arrested, Strathclyde Police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Pat Campbell said: "These operations show we are absolutely determined to rid our communities of serious and organised crime, and we will continue to target those who are involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs in our local areas.

"I would encourage members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to report any suspicious activity to their local police office or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
