Pilot killed during glider take-off

 

A glider pilot has died in a crash during take-off.

The accident happened at the Scottish Gliding Centre at Portmoak airfield in Kinross.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash at around 1.30pm and found the pilot, aged in his late-40s, in an overturned Nimbus 3 aircraft.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in the crash which happened when the plane took off and was only a few feet from the ground.

Tayside Police said: "An investigation involving Tayside Police, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau and the Civil Aviation Authority is being carried out to establish the full set of circumstances surrounding the incident.

"As with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
