Pedestrian dies after car accident

A man has died after being hit by a car in a city street.

Police say they were called to the accident in Corstorphine High Street in Edinburgh at around 6.20pm on Tuesday.

A 54-year-old pedestrian sustained serious head injuries when a blue Toyota MR2 car struck him.

He was taken to Western General Hospital for treatment but his condition worsened overnight and he died.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "At the time of the incident the area would have been busy with pedestrians. We want anyone who witnessed the collision, which happened close to the Corstorphine Inn, to contact police immediately."
