Pair injured with bottle and knife

Two men are in hospital after being attacked in the street by a group of up to six men.

Police said the assault in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, was "totally unprovoked".

The men, both aged 22, were walking with friends along Cruachan Road at around 2.35am on Sunday when they were challenged by the group.

Both men were then attacked, one with a knife and the other with a bottle.

They were taken to hospital where their condition has been described as serious but stable.

Detective Sergeant Josie McGhee said: "This would appear to be a totally unprovoked attack on the two men and from our inquiries we are aware that the group of men responsible may already have challenged others in the area to a fight."
