Job scheme details to be disclosed

Measures are being unveiled which are hailed as creating 10,000 job opportunities for young people.

Youth Employment Minister Angela Constance will on Friday announce more details of the "skills package" unveiled in the budget this week.

Finance Secretary John Swinney outlined a new employer recruitment initiative which he said will create up to 10,000 opportunities for businesses to recruit young people.

Ms Constance will visit Bank of New York Mellon in Edinburgh where she will give more details such as funding levels and how it will work. She will meet bank staff, including young people the bank has taken on.

Mr Swinney allocated funding of £16.25 million in 2013-14 for a national recruitment initiative for small and medium size enterprises to give young people jobs.

He said the Government is taking action to help 18 to 24-year-olds who have been out of work for between three and nine months, and that £15 million will be matched by funding from Europe and employers for the initiative.
