Infant's death unexplained: Police

The death of an infant is being treated as unexplained by police.

The young child was admitted to hospital at about 5pm on Wednesday from an address in George Street, Aberdeen.

Grampian Police said its inquiries into the youngster's death, which happened on the same day, were at an early stage.

Further investigations will be carried out to try to determine how the child died.

Detective Inspector Graeme Mackie, who is leading the inquiry for the force, said: "Enquiries into the death are at a very early stage.

"As is normal in such circumstances, a post-mortem will be carried out and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Police have not yet confirmed the age of the child or whether it is a boy or a girl.
