Six designs shortlisted to transform one of Scotland's best-known city spaces have been unveiled to the public.
Images of proposed developments for George Square in Glasgow have been put on display at The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Design and Architecture.
The shortlist comprises designs by French architects Agence Ter, US-based James Corner Field Operations and UK firms Burns + Nice, Gustafson Porter, JM Architects and John McAslan & Partners.
A total of 35 entries were received from around the globe, with the winner to be announced on January 18.
Councillor Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "Each bidder has a wealth of international experience and all six have delivered a number of eye-catching civic spaces acclaimed by their peers and public alike.
"This redevelopment is a hugely exciting moment in the growth of the city as Glasgow strives to forge ahead and meet its future challenges. The prestige of the companies competing to redevelop George Square is a clear indication of just how iconic it is around the world.
"It is absolutely essential we choose the right team to create a new George Square - a George Square fit for the 21st century. I look forward to working closely with the winning design team to develop their design and give the people and businesses of Glasgow the George Square they deserve."
The square, which dates back to the 18th century, was once regarded as Glasgow's "Grand Place" but has deteriorated to a state where the "loss of status and dignity is all too apparent", according to a report by Glasgow City Council published in September 2012.
It is hoped that the redesign will return grandeur to the city centre and enhance Glasgow's reputation on the international stage.
The 13 statues and monuments that stand in the square are to be moved to other sites in the city while the area is redeveloped ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
