Estate staff treated over chemical

Two estate workers have been treated for suspected chemical poisoning after an incident in the Western Isles. One of the men reportedly smashed a bottle containing a noxious substance used in pest control, believed to be cyanide. Two ambulance workers called to assist the workers at a private estate in Timsgarry, Isle of Lewis, were also treated as a precaution. The four underwent a roadside decontamination before being taken to Western Isles Hospital. A section of the A858 was temporarily shut as the procedure was carried out. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said: "Two male estate workers and two female ambulance personnel were taken to the Western Isles Hospital following precautionary decontamination as a result of an incident. "Both ambulance personnel and one of the estate workers were discharged following assessment. One man is due to be discharged following further assessment." Police said the fire and rescue service is assessing the property to make sure it is completely safe. "There is not believed to be any further risk to the public," the spokesman said.
