Eight injured in motorway crash

Eight people have been taken to hospital after a minibus crashed into trees on a key commuter route.

The bus carrying 10 passengers left the eastbound M8 connecting Glasgow and Edinburgh.

One person was airlifted to the Southern General Hospital, Strathclyde Police said.

Four were taken to Wishaw General and three to Monklands hospital.

Their condition was not yet known.

The collision just after the Shotts turn-off forced the temporary closure of the motorway in both directions.

All westbound lanes and one lane of the eastbound carriageway are now open.
