Commission reviews SNP accounts

Political parties clashed over an Electoral Commission probe into the SNP's financial affairs.

The watchdog is "reviewing" accountancy practices by the party in Angus prompted by a complaint from the Conservatives.

SNP officials said they were "100% confident" that its accounts are in order and hit back, demanding an apology from the commission and accusing the Tories of smear tactics. The probe was launched earlier this week after allegations that the SNP were using tactics to avoid publishing accounts.
