Body identified as missing woman

A body found in woods has been identified as a woman who went missing almost two weeks ago.

Heather McKay, 51, was last seen at her friend's home in Craiglaw, Dechmont in West Lothian at around 7.30am on Friday August 24.

Police searching for her discovered a body in dense woodland between the A89 south of Dechmont village and the M8 in Livingston.

Lothian and Borders Police said there are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Police search teams and members of Borders Search and Rescue were involved in looking for the missing mother when the discovery was made at around 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Last Friday, on the one-week anniversary of her disappearance, police distributed thousands of leaflets and posters in the village and surrounding areas and spoke to commuters and parents dropping their children off at the local primary school.

Her children and sister also appealed to members of the public for information.
