Shape up your legs for summer

FIRM UP If you want sexy legs for the beach, start toning now. Do lunges and squats every day - start with 12 reps on each leg and work up to 20. You should notice a difference within four weeks.

CHANGE YOUR DIET Improve flabby, dimpled thighs by cutting back on the fatty meat, full-fat dairy products, biscuits and pastries you eat - and make sure you have plenty of fruit and veg every day.

STOP THE SALT Cut back on the amount of salty foods you eat as salt attracts water and can encourage fluid retention, making your thighs look flabbier.

POLISH YOUR PINS Cold weather dries out skin, leaving dead cells on the surface that make it look dull. Combat this, by rubbing in an exofoliating lotion, using circular strokes.

GET THE BLOOD MOVING To banish bloating, boost your leg circulation by using a dry-skin brush on your thighs and bum for five minutes every day before you bath or shower. Always brush in the direction of the heart.

MOISTURISE After a hot bath, when your skin follicles are open, slap on some moisturiser to rejuvenate your skin. Make sure you pay particular attention to the driest areas - knees and heels.

LOOK AFTER YOUR VEINS Sitting at a desk for long periods can slow down blood circulation in your legs. To maintain healthy veins, apply Antistax Cooling Leg Gel, £5.49, from supermarkets (call 01344 741493 for more details). It contains red vine leaf extract, a source of natural flavonoids, which refreshes tired, aching legs.

FAKE IT Cheat by applying fake tan or a bronzing lotion to your pins to cover any small imperfections and make them look slimmer. Johnson's Holiday Skin, £4.99, is a moisturiser that contains a small amount of self-tanner - great for giving your legs a golden but natural shimmer.

BOOK A PEDICURE You may have great legs but if your toes look unkempt then that's all people will be looking at. Applying polish to your nails will also give the illusion of longer legs.
