The countdown begins...

If you're planning a big, traditional wedding, try to give yourself as much time as possible to arrange it; a year is preferable. Let us help you countdown to your big day! To start you off, using our business search, we've found all the companies involved in wedding services within 15 miles of your area - just click on the links!

When you get engaged...

Announce the engagement.

Set the date (at least decide on the year and the month).

Decide on the wedding party members and confirm that they are all available.

Plan your budget. This will enable you to establish who pays for what and will bring to light all the tasks that need to be done and by whom.

Draw up a guest list. Be aware that, naturally, parents will want to have their say and also that some registry offices only accommodate a limited number.

Choose a venue for the reception, get estimates for catering (if required) and make a provisional booking. Some venues require you to book up to a year in advance.

Decide whether you're going to have a civil or religious ceremony and provisionally book the church or other venue.

Make an appointment to see the minister or registrar to arrange the ceremony and necessary paperwork. Decide which hymns you would like during the service.

Book whatever music or entertainment you want for the reception.

Book the photographer and/or the videographer. Ask around for personal recommendations and make sure that you see examples of their work before booking.

Start looking for your wedding dress, especially if it's being made to measure and your shoes and accessories. Think about colour schemes and themes for flowers and other decorations.

Start looking for the members of the wedding party's outfits.

Start looking for your stationery: invitations with envelopes and reply cards, order of service sheets, menus and thank you cards.
