MORE TIPS

Help! I've bought my dress and can't find underwear to go with it

"Try stick on cups or ask your seamstress to sew the cups of an old bra into your dress!", says Fran. "But wherever possible, make sure you can get underwear before you buy the dress."

I'm getting married in hot weather

"However romantic it may be to get married in the full wedding regalia, you have to consider comfort. You don't want to wilt under the weight of basque, stockings and suspenders", says Fran. "Look for micro-fibre fabrics that allow your skin to breathe and won't stay damp if you perspire. Where possible, avoid boned or heavily structured lingerie, including hold me in knickers, as above all, you need to be comfortable."

Get measured and fitted when buying underwear. It's not uncommon to go down a size if wearing a basque.

Go somewhere that has a fitting consultant. Don't be bashful! You need expert advice when buying wedding underwear and help to get into a many-hooked basque. Always allow the fitting consultant in the changing room to help.

It can be difficult to buy bras over a DD cup so allow yourself plenty of time.

Buy well in advance. Some shops ask you to wear your lingerie to your first fitting. Three months is about right.

Break it in! Tempting as it is to wear new underwear, lingerie - like shoes - benefits from a few trial runs before the big day. Bras, especially, will be more comfortable if they have been broken in.

Make sure you are comfortable. If you are fiddling, you aren't comfortable and it will show on the day.

Remember, you can always buy your dream underwear and change into it before the wedding night.
